English to be compulsory at elementary schools from 2008
[TOKYO] The education ministry plans to make English lessons obligatory at elementary schools across Japan in line with a panel recommendation issued Monday, ministry officials said. Following the recommendation of the ministry's Central Council for Education, the ministry envisions revising educational guidelines as early as the next fiscal year, which begins next Saturday, for implementation in later years. Given that other Asian countries such as South Korea and China have English as a compulsory subject in elementary schools, some panel members have pointed out that Japan should consider doing so as a national strategy. 土曜の夜の相模湖は最高でした！地元の人がいっぱい集まってワイワイ騒いで〜 予約なしで座れた私たちはとてもラッキーでした。店の中のインテリアは素晴らしく、ママさんがとてもエレガントで気さくな女性でした！それに、娘さんが作った料理は、新鮮で味も香りも抜群、どれも食通がうなるほどのレベルでした。すごくおいしくて量もたっぷり、おまけに値段もリーズナブル！
M.N.G.のメンバーによるライブは期待どおりで、おいしい料理にベストマッチ。ドラムの沼さんは抑制のきいた滑らかで流れるようなビートを刻む〜 スネアドラムを省いた構成は完璧。ベースの大戸さんは機転が利くから、水岡さんが突然アドリブを始めてもピッタリついていく。

彼らの見事な伴奏が、ジャズ風な曲からセンチメンタルな曲まで、Camaruさんのボーカルを盛り上げる。時に甘く、時に激しい歌が完全に終わる前から、お客さんたちは大きな拍手と歓声で、もう大騒ぎ！
最初のステージの最後の歌が終わると、１人の女性客が、それでショーが全部終わったと勘違いして、思わず不満そうな声を漏らしたほど！でも、水岡さんが優しく、もう1回ステージがあることを伝えて安心させました。というわけで、その後もハイテンションと気の利いたアドリブをみんな大いに楽しんで、気が付いたら１０時近くになっていました！
相模湖の「カフェ・ド・ヴィヴィエ」とM.N.G.には、忘れられない夜を提供してくれたことに心から感謝します。JRに言って、東京から相模湖まで新幹線を走らせてもらおうかしら！ 
かまる Camaru
Saturday night at Sagami-ko was great! It was a full house of cheerful, lively locals — we were very lucky to get a seat there with no advance reservation. The café was decorated nicely inside and the proprietress was such an elegant, friendly lady! Plus the cuisine items were obviously gourmet level, homemade, fresh and full of flavor, prepared by her daughter. Very delicious, generous portions and reasonably priced!
As expected, the live entertainment by the members of M.N.G. was a worthy accompaniment to such tasty cuisine. Drummer Numa-san's beat is smoothly controlled with swift, distinctive transitions — the snare drum-less tone range is perfect. Bassist Oto-san's nimble expressiveness complements Mizuoka-san's sudden improvisations extremely well. And those guys are a fine accompaniment to Camaru-san's vocal range, from very jazzy to deeply sentimental.

Songs masterfully and energetically performed could barely be completed before the guests were loudly clapping and whooping their appreciation! After the last song of the first stage, one lady moaned in distress with the mistaken belief that the show was completely over! Mizuoka-san cheerfully assured her that a second stage would be performed, and so the high energy and creative improvisations continued to surprise and entertain everyone till nearly 10 p.m.!
Our sincere thanks to Sagami Lake's Café de Vivier and to M.N.G. for a very memorable evening. I think I should contact Japan Railways right away and urge them to set up a Tokyo-to-Sagami Lake bullet train line!
