Ang Lee Honored as Filmmaker of the Year

Film Director Ang Lee[Variety] — Ang Lee has roped in the Directors Guild of America top feature film award for helming Focus Features' cowboy romance "Brokeback Mountain." It's the second DGA trophy for the Taiwanese native, who was honored five years ago for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." The award, based on voting by the 12,800 DGA members, was presented by director Ron Howard. The victory wasn't a surprise, given recent support for "Brokeback" including the Producers Guild Award and four Golden Globes, including best drama and director. Winning the DGA award makes Lee a front-runner for the Best Picture Oscar. The DGA winner and the Oscar winner have matched in 51 of the last 57 years, including last year when Clint Eastwood won both trophies for "Million Dollar Baby." [Continued]

Some of Wakin's gratitude very deservedly goes to Taiwan's veteran bass player 郭宗韶 Guo Zong Shao, an artist with whom Wakin has worked for many years. I have just found a cool 2001 article & interview in English stored in the Globalbass.com archives that goes into wonderful detail about Ah Jiao's background and ability — another diamond for the WWS Database!

Local Live — 水岡のぶゆき

The Mizuoka Nobuyuki Group at the Yokohama Bayside Marina, 9 January 2006

Thanks to the members of MNG for braving the cold and windy weather to provide yesterday's excellent three stages at the Yokohama Bayside Marina outlet park. Because most everybody who watched was wearing gloves, their applause after the songs had an especially warm and friendly sound! And it was great to see how many people would gather at the table to buy CDs and pick up leaflets after each show. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves very much — thank you!
