Rock Mobile to make IPO on Nasdaq in second half of 2006
[Taiwan Headlines] Taiwanese mobile-entertainment Web site Rock Mobile Corp. will make an initial public offering (IPO) on Nasdaq in the second half this year, becoming the first Asian digital-music Web site to go public on the U.S. electronics-stock market. The company's chief executive officer (CEO), J.H. Yang, estimated the company to likely score earnings of US$10 million and revenue of US$50 million throughout this year. Last year, his company raked in revenue totaling US$20 million. Yang said his company began making money for the first time last year since it was established four years ago. Yang attributed his company's profit mostly to the mainland China market, where it started operation two years after it opened headquarters in Taiwan five years ago. Its operation in Taiwan last year garnered around US$5 million. Yang projected his company to become the mainland's No.1 digital-music service provider by 2008. [Continued]

Google to open branch in Taiwan in March
[Taiwan Headlines] Search engine Google will open a branch in Taiwan in March to offer services including information-software service, data-processing service, advertising service, leisure-recreation service and product-design service. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) issued an operation approval to the world's largest Internet search engine on February 15. Google's entry into Taiwan is estimated to fuel competitions in the island's search-engine and Internet-advertising markets. Taiwanese portal sites including Yahoo Kimo said Google is a formidable competitor and they would continuously offer innovative search services to meet local needs. Currently, Yahoo Kimo is Taiwan's biggest provider of Internet-advertising service and pay search engine, bagging over 50 percent of the Taiwan market. Yam.com and PCHome Online said they were happy to see the Google's move. Yam.com is Google's Taiwan dealer. [Continued]

Virus attacking Apple Macintosh PCs found
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) — A malicious computer worm has been found that targets Apple Computer Inc.'s Mac OS X operating system, believed to be the first such virus aimed specifically at the Mac platform. The worm is called OSX/Leap-A, according to a posting on the Web site of antivirus software company Sophos, which said the worm is spread via instant messaging programs. The worm attempts to spread via Apple's iChat instant messaging program, which is compatible with America Online's popular AIM instant messaging program, according to the Sophos Web site.
