Question: When did you receive the invitation to sing "World Love"?
Wakin: I think about 4 months ago. Things moved very quickly with all the arrangements and details. Everyone cooperated. Since I've always liked Toyota automobiles, I drive one every time I'm in Taipei. So I'm very happy to be able to sing this first crown song for the Corolla.
Question: What do you think of "World Love"?
Wakin: It's a very classic and loved English song. (WBMSTR: The original is a late 1960s megahit by the American songwriter Burt Bacharach titled "What the World Needs Now Is Love.") Everyone is familiar with the English version. When I first got the invitation, I went home and sang it for my wife to hear. The whole song just for her. I really like this first-ever Chinese rendition.
Question: You had considered receives this first song your special edition? [Sorry....don't know what that means...maybe, "Have you considered using this song on your album?" Hmm....I don't know]
Wakin: Certainly! I thought this was a great song. I fell in love with this song.
Question: You helped write the lyrics of this "World Love". Tell us about how it went.
Wakin: I think the lyrics are very good. At first I thought the lyrics would have to emphasize the product. But afterwards the FTMS (Toyota reps) and I agreed that it's the Love which should be emphasized. In life, that's what moves us, and that emotion can be manifest using the Corolla. So we decided to keep the English version's meaning as much as we could, just translating it into Chinese as much as possible while accommodating the structure of the song.
Question: We see you're using a style very different from your usual style, right? What did you take into consideration when choosing what style to sing "World Love" in?
Wakin: It truly is different from my usual style. I considered quite a few different ways to sing it, but finally chose that one. It's kind of light, yet persuasive in feeling. I thought this style would give it that European romantic feeling. I felt it matched the Corolla very well with that mature style.
Question: When did you know about Corolla?
Wakin: [Unclear sentence omitted.] Japan's auto industry has very high standards. Especially Toyota. You'd be guaranteed confidence. I always use a Toyota in Taipei.
Question: So, do your family and friends have Corollas?
Wakin: Yes, many of them! Even my manager.
Question: What makes you like them? What kind of feeling do you get from it?
Wakin: I think it's a very good model. It's user-friendly. The engine performs well. When I first saw it, my first reaction was that I liked it a lot. It's a dependable, mature car that would be a best choice for driving to work. I think it's suitable for young people too, because when you drive to meet your girlfriend, she'd be impressed by this mature, steady guy.
