It's Chau Time!

Emil takes centrestage again, after Jackie and the rest finally retreat backstage. What better way to get his act together than to lay hands on his "pet" instrument, the acoustic guitar. Having played the guitar since Emil was about 15 years of age -- alongside other lesser known talents like playing the triangle, as he laughingly points out -- the "Heavenly King Assassin" misses a chord amidst the medley of songs. However, never the sort to be overly abashed by his mistakes, Emil tides over the moment of folly with his self-deprecating sense of humour: "As you can tell, I haven't recovered from the earlier shock yet (referring to the surprise visit from Jackie Chan)!" Do you still wonder why Emil's our man?

"Must sing louder or it won't come true!" is Emil's funny advice to his "girlfriends" (he does refer to them as such) from Nanyang Girls School. In the midst of their chorus to Emil's song I Will Marry You Tomorrow, Emil teases the pack of giggly girls garbed in white uniforms by referring to them as "singing angels."

Emil (aka Sensitive New Age Husband) makes a dedication to his family and wife Constance, a gesture well-known to his fans. To make up for his neglect since his singing career picked up, Emil took some precious time off his work earlier this year to stay home. It's about time, we say, especially after Constance's breakdown and visit to a psychiatrist earlier this year. Emil's remorse towards his wife is captured in a song he penned for her, titled Should Have Been. Part of the lyrics goes: "There should have been less goodbyes, there should have been more embraces, and I should have discovered your lonely smiles earlier." Talk about the price of fame . . . .

The near-seven month retreat has done the singer much good, in ways more than one. Other than having more time to rest and devote to writing more songs, precious moments of joy with his children are also gleefully recounted by Emil at the concert, such as the "swimming episode" with his three-year-old daughter: "To be fair, my daughter's not fat, just plump. But even when she finally manages to squeeze into the little bikini suit we bought for her, she's still exposing her top torso!" When asked if he took any pictures to capture the magic moment, Emil laughingly replies: "No way! Semi-nude pics are out. My daughter needs to get married!"

Armed with his heartfelt vocals, unrestrained sense of humour, and A-class celeb-speak, Emil needs no more than a stage and a mike to entertain. There's many more good years to go for this talented singer-songwriter, we say!
