Famed for his heartfelt vocals as well as unrestrained sense of humour, Emil Chau -- the "Heavenly King Assassin" -- treated the roaring crowd at his recent concert to some of his best tunes, alongside his regular dosage of irreverent jokes. Jacqueline Wee relates the high points of the concert that was held at the Harbour Pavilion in Singapore.
The stage that's bound to come alive when funnyman Emil takes over.
Scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm, the concert only started at about 8:15 pm. Good thing that the awaiting crowd was patient, though: some of Emil's fans had apparently started to queue outside the Harbour Pavilion entrance since noon to ensure good seats! Whew, what a wait . . .
Keeping a low key since the beginning of the year hasn't affected his popularity, apparently. More evidence of Emil's allure: his charms clearly cut across all demographics.
Ah, finally, the one with the boisterous laughter appears.
"I love the feel of a live performance for all its spontaneity and vivaciousness," said Emil at a reception party after the concert. "It's the most direct manner of interacting with your fans too." We can't agree more, especially after the jokes start rolling!

Emil really hasn't changed much, where his memory is concerned. Still prone to forgetting his lyrics every so often, Emil appeases crowds and wins them over easily with his megawatt, million-dollar smiles. Later in the concert, the self-professed "middle-aged singer," takes this signature trait of his a step further by singing a new song titled "Forgetful," from his currently-released album entitled Wakin Storyteller. Needless to say, the song clearly suits him well!
