The Brilliance of the Man
From The Singapore New Paper -- May 6, 1996

Emil Chau is a self-proclaimed workaholic. But that doesn't mean he isn't emotional.... especially when it comes to his family.

The Taiwanese singer related an incident one year ago when he broke down in the recording studio while cutting a song for last year's album Let Me Be Happy, Let Me Be Sad.

Happy & SadFor this reason alone, he rates the song -- titled "Brilliance" -- as his favourite track.

Emil related how his wife, who was about eight months pregnant, travelled all the way from Taiwan to join him in Hong Kong. But he was too busy to spend any time with her.

One day, he finished work early. Just as he started entertaining the thoughts of an early night, his wife suddenly went into labour.

By the time the baby was delivered, it was almost noon the next day. Emil then rushed back to the studio to record "Brilliance."

"By then I was so stressed, I couldn't breathe. And then my tears started falling in torrents," he recalled.

'I have neglected my wife, my family over the last few years. I'm always leaving them behind in Taiwan while I busy myself in Hong Kong. How can I be a good man?' -- Emil Chau
