BLOOD, Sweat & Song
From The New Paper — November 17, 1997

Emil Chau was so engrossed in his performance that he did not realise he'd hurt himself.

At a concert in Selangor, Malaysia, the Hong Kong singer was on the drums. And one of the sticks flew from his hand and hit his brow.

Blood started to drip...... but Emil played on. The rhythm of the drums never failed.

The blood trickled down his face and onto his neck. But Emil was rock steady.

He was simply at his best. His fans became hysterical. They shouted: "Emil, you're bleeding!", but he did not hear them.

Who Am I?When he finally realised he'd been wounded, he said to the crowd, "It's okay!" and he continued to sing the theme song of Jackie Chan's latest movie, Who Am I?. The crowd loved it. And Emil loved his act too.

He said: "There should be some bleeding, I'm willing to sacrifice for everybody -- I love you all!"

Judging from the applause and cries coming from the audience, Emil Chau seemed to have gained a lot more than the bit of blood he lost.

The guest performers at his concert in Malaysia included Tarcy Su and Malaysia's own duo 'Wu Yin Liang Pin'.

During the concert, Wu Yin Liang Pin decided to sing some Malay folk songs and wanted Emil to translate on the spot.

They started off with "Lu Suka Punya Ada Berapa / Ada Satu Dua Atau Ramai Ramai...." and Emil responded, "Why is the song so familar?"

Then he strummed his guitar and began to sing one of his own hit songs, the lyrics being what Wu Yin Liang Pin were singing in Malay.

Having done that, Emil jokingly brimmed with inflated pride and announced, "Sometimes I really admire myself -- I'm really good!"

However, the naughty duo Wu Yin Liang Pin then decided to change the lyrics to "Orange Yang Bodoh." But Emil managed to get it right in Chinese once again, as he continued to sing his song.
