He is known to be
the perfect husband in showbiz.
But popular singer
Emil Chau confessed that he saw his wife only "a few times
in a year." Work kept him away from his family for years.
"It was terrible.
My wife and I hardly saw each other," Emil, 37, told reporters
recently. He was in town for the National Kidney Foundation charity
show.
"It became so
bad I almost had to pass her my name card when I saw her and
say, "Call me when you're free, we can go for tea,"
he said jokingly.
But things are looking
up. For the past six months, Emil has been spending
time with his wife, Constance, and two kids, aged seven and two.
"Finally, I
have a chance to lead a new life. We are currently going through
a new stage in our married life," he said, beaming.
Ahhh. Can we expect
a new addition to the Chau family soon?
No way! "Our
kids are finally grown up, and my wife can now take a breather.
If I were to accidentally make her pregnant again, she would
kill me!" he said. The couple have been married for 12 years.
Now, Emil works five
days a week and spends his weekends relaxing at home.
The couple even found
time to attend Taiwanese producer-songwriter-singer Jonathan Li's wedding with Hongkong star Sandy Lam in Vancouver, B.C., in February.
Emil said: "Hey,
we flew to Vancouver not for the two of them, but for ourselves!
You can call it our second honeymoon."
On the work front,
he warned: Expect to see a big change in his music.
He promised his latest
Mandarin album, due out in July, will be of "a new flavour."
"We witnessed
a major change in the music scene last year. We saw the emergence
of singers like Chang Huei Mei. We are seeing a new direction
in music."
Emil said he never
found the guts to change his music, till recently.
"People are
so used to my music, my style. What if others cannot accept the
change? My career will die then... But now, I am confident. Listeners
have proved that they can accept changes," he said.
To prove his point,
Emil will be keeping his hair long.
For a change.
